The Past Framing the Present: Print Rooms

There has been a recent upsurge in the interest of decorating the modern interior with trend’s Salon Stacking of frames, & wallpaper hanging. Naturally these had fused in to the creation of several wallpapers by a variety of artists including Frames by Graham & Brown, & Lisa Bengtsson’s Relatives Wallpaper. Each of these provide a space for the consumer to personalize, either drawing directly inside of the frame with markers or crayons (great for a kids playroom), or by inserting photographs or paintings directly onto the paper with an adherent. However the user chooses to embrace this trend, it surely isn’t new..

Picture of Castleton ireland 225x300 The Past Framing the Present: Print RoomsWhile the evolution of the print room is comparatively well documented, there is a fair amount of conflicting information regarding its origin. The earliest known mention of the phenomenon dates back to 1726, in which a young Mademoiselle Aïssé describes a Parisian passion for cutting up colored engravings, which were then used for wallhangings. While this description surely hints at the beginning of the trend of clipping out engravings and adhering them to the walls, this differs slightly from the version found on the British Isles, where there appeared to be an affinity for the use of a stark palate of black and white prints, and where the print room overwhelmingly gains its popularity.

Stud 03 Design for Dinner

Dinner parties are a time for tasty treats. They’re also a chance to show off your taste in design. Today’s style-centric hosts can give their guests something to talk about, other than the “surprise” in the casserole.

I’m moderately intimidated by the Stud Table by Marc Th. van der Voorn. Tough, angular, and confident, I think I’d be a little afraid to place a salad on top of it. Via Yanko Design

Picture of Modular Lighting

Robhoff modular light 1

Time for your lamps to break up & possibly get back together again. Light can blend, bend, separate & reunite. Its fitting when lighting systems have similar freedom.

Robert Hoffmans modular method lets you diffract light in every direction. The cube-shaped lamp has flexible sides which can flip around, allowing you to quickly & basically change the direction of the light coming out of it. By Design Milk
